NC Planned Parenthood Enables Sex-Selection Abortions as it Denounces Them
Abortion Giant Uses Doublespeak to Protect Lucrative Business
Washington, D.C. – Following a response by Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina to a new video investigation showing abortion clinics in Raleigh and Chapel Hill advising women on how best to procure a sex-selective abortion of their baby girls because they want a boy instead, Live Action challenged the organization’s feigned denouncement of sex-selection abortion. Live Action’s “Gendercide” project, with full, unedited videos at www.ProtectOurGirls.com, has now documented abortion clinics’ support for sex-selection at 8 clinics in 5 states.
“With gendercide’s impact reaching America and endangering thousands of unborn girls, Planned Parenthood’s facilitation of sex-selection abortion is deeply disturbing and hypocritical. Planned Parenthood publicly boasts that it cares about the rights of women, yet insists upon offering what are often brutal, late-term abortions that target unborn girls. The group is out of touch with what the majority of American women believe, and their double speak is clear: while claiming to condemns sex-selection, Planned Parenthood refuses to stop the lethal practice,” Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action. “Planned Parenthood is determined to salvage every dollar out of as many abortions as possible, pursuing a radical abortion-first agenda, regardless of the reasons, as our videos show. The abortion giant’s true abortion-first agenda becomes clear in its contradictory statements, especially as the state legislature is poised to vote on the budget that may defund the organization in North Carolina.
“Out of excuses, Planned Parenthood has resorted to lies. While it claims to support women, the abortion leader refuses to end its participation in this violent and discriminatory practice.”
Planned Parenthood in North Carolina receives nearly $400,000 annually in taxpayer subsidies which Gov. Beverly Perdue has refused to cut.
Sex-selective abortion is legal in all but 4 states. This month, the Prenatal Non-Discrimination Act (PRENDA), which would prohibit sex-selective abortions nationwide, was introduced in the Senate. Planned Parenthood claims to condemn sex-selective abortion, but in a statement last month, President and CEO Cecile Richards opposed PRENDA because it would “limit [a woman’s] choices.” Six studies in the past four years indicate that there are thousands of “missing girls” in the U.S. from sex-selective abortion. Worldwide, over 160 million girls are missing because of sex-selective abortion.
Live Action is a youth led movement dedicated to building a culture of life and ending the human rights abuse of abortion. They use new media to educate the public about the humanity of the unborn and investigative journalism to expose threats against the vulnerable and defenseless. More information at LiveAction.org.
